4:30 or Bust: A Quest for Marathon Mediocrity

Recovery run, plus Straw interview

with one comment

Made it out at around 10pm tonight for a 5.2 mile recovery run, twice around Stuyvesant Town in the service roads.  It was a balmy 61 degrees, with light rain.  This was actually my third straight day of running, which for me is very unusual.  I built some handy dandy Excel formulas, and see that the last time I did that was 12/30/07, 12/31/07, 1/1/08, almost 1 year ago.  And, I went to the gym last night, so 4 exercise activities in 3 days.

Overall, it was a very nice and smooth steady pace run.  First loop was 24:17 and second loop was 24:18.  Did not push the pace at all, and had a very steady 9:21 pace.

Had my mp3 player, but didn’t listen to any music.  Instead, listened to Mike Francesa’s extended interview of Darryl Strawberry from last week on the FAN, which brought back great memories of rooting for the Mets in the 80’s.  Although I’m not completely done listening to the interview (it is 90 minutes long), I don’t think they are going to get to the question I really want to hear him answer, which is what it was like to finally make the return trip to Shea Stadium in 2006 when they had the 20 year reunion for the 1986 team.  As far as I know, Straw had not been back to Shea as a ‘Met’ since he left in the early 90’s, and the fans really made him feel welcome.  It was a really cool event in the sense that each player walked down through the stands to get out on the field, and Straw got probably the biggest welcome.  I was at Shea that day, and it is one of my best memories.

Anyway, another satisfying run.
